EFFECTIVE AGAINST 4 MAJOR HOME MOTH SPECIES

Our pheromone-based moth traps are specially designed to target the most destructive clothes moths: Common Webbing Moths, Case-Bearing Carpet Moths, and Pale-Backed Moths, which are often responsible for fabric and carpet damage. The pantry moth traps target Indian Meal Moths, commonly found in kitchens. If the traps aren't capturing moths, the infestation may involve a species incompatible with our traps. Contact us if you're unsure, preferably before making a purchase.

HOME PROTECTION

MothOut traps are ideal to use as a prime approach to locate, measure and monitor clothes/carpet and pantry moth infestation. How traps work? The inner surface of each trap is coated with glue infused with pheromones formulated to mimic the natural signals emitted by female moths, luring male moths toward the sticky moth trap. It enables you to identify the insect problem early and take prompt action to prevent further infestation.

Nowadays we enjoy the comfort of warm, climate-controlled homes, where we can adjust temperature and humidity to our preferences. Unfortunately, this ideal environment also attracts unwanted pests like spiders, flies, and moths!

While it's already unsettling to have these creatures in our living spaces, the situation can become even worse when they start damaging our belongings, leading to potentially costly and distressing problems.

There are 3 particular moth types: Common Webbing Moth (Tineola Bisselliella), also known as the Clothes Moth, Case-Bearing Moth (Tinea Pellionella), also known as Carpet Moth, and the Pale-Backed Moth (Monopis Crocicapitella), which can do critical damage to the clothes, carpets, furniture, rugs and other fabrics. Usually, they make their nests in wardrobes, shade carpet corners, behind curtains or under the furniture, but they may also create colonies in the loft insulation! MothOut Clothes moth traps will target these moth species and help to control and monitor their presence.

We can also be infested by a moth called Indian Meal Moth (Plodia Interpunctella). This moth is targeting our pantry, but often it is mistakenly identified as a clothes moth due to its nest-locating preferences. Indian meal moth nests can be found in nuts, pet food, bird seeds, rice, cereals, but also in wardrobes, and other areas, away from the kitchen. This fact can successfully confuse the households and prevent correct moths identification. The included Pantry moth traps will help you to identify the Indian Meal Moths and monitor their activities. Due to the pheromone similarity, pantry moth traps may also be effective with 4 other, less common moth species, such as Tobacco Moth (Ephestia Elutella), Almond Moth (Cadra Cautella), Flour Moth (Ephestia Kuehniella) but the success in capturing these moths will vary and therefore can't be guaranteed.

With the arrival of spring and warmer temperatures, we often see an increase in insect activity around our gardens, flowers, and kitchens. While these creatures play important roles in nature, we don’t always want them inside our homes. Fruit flies and fungus gnats are common pests that can be difficult to eliminate, but houseflies and other less common insects may also be drawn to plants on windows. Our yellow fly traps are designed to address this issue.

MothOut traps use cleaver technology to monitor moth and fly infestation quietly and discreetly without causing any hassle. No smell, no poison, and no damage, which is not too obvious for other chemical products available on the market like sprays, smoke bombs or naphthalene balls.

If you discover moths in your house:

First, do not panic. With the correct tools and knowledge, the moth removing process doesn’t have to be expensive and complicated.

Plan of action:

  1. Identify the moth species. If you're unsure, send us a photograph for guidance before making a purchase.
  2. Once you’ve identified the moth type, choose and deploy the appropriate moth traps, and follow the steps below:
  • When dealing with clothes moths, empty your closet and inspect all your garments. Also, check your carpets for holes, small white eggs, larvae, or webbing. Clean your wardrobe thoroughly with a vacuum cleaner, and wipe down shelves, hangers, and rails with a cloth and vinegar-water solution before returning your clothes. Vacuum all carpets thoroughly and dispose of the dust bag outside the house.
  • To tackle pantry moths, clean your cupboards and drawers with a vinegar-water solution. Wash food containers thoroughly and store your food in airtight containers, preferably glass or plastic.
  • Deploy MothOut clothes moth traps and start monitoring results.
Moth-preventing tips:

  • Did you know that Moths dislike the smell of herbs? Introduce dried lavender into your wardrobe; its pleasant fragrance repels moths. You can also grow lavender in pots near doorways and windows to create a natural barrier against moths. For the kitchen, use cloves or bay leaves to deter moths.
  • To fight moth infestations successfully, it's important to be familiar with phototaxis - an organism's instinctive movement toward or away from light. Moths are positively phototactic, meaning they are naturally drawn to light sources in the dark.
  • Moths dislike being disturbed. Regularly take out items hanging in your wardrobe and give them a shake at least once a month.
  • To eliminate eggs and larvae, wash clothes at temperatures above 55°C. For delicate fabrics, deep-freeze them by sealing items in a plastic freezer bag and placing them at -18°C for at least two weeks.
  • Second-hand clothing can carry larvae. Always wash newly purchased clothes before storing them.
  • After using your vacuum cleaner, empty the contents into a black plastic bag, seal it tightly, and dispose of it in an outdoor bin.
  • Wipe down newly purchased food bags and cans - shops and warehouses can be breeding grounds for moths.
